Son of blacklisted screenwriters Ben Barzman and Norma Barzman. Paulo Barzman grew up in France while his parents and siblings were in exile in Europe. Their exile was due to the parents' blacklisting during the McCarthy Era in the US. They returned to the US in the early 70's -- see Norma's autobiography "The Red and the Blacklist" (2004).
